Just Plain Luck

I shattered a mirror, spilled some salt, opened

the umbrella indoors, went outside, walked under

a ladder and stepped on sidewalk cracks, and

nothing yet.

There have been times when I did none of these

and still managed to have a run of bad luck. I didn’t

fare too well in marriages and close relationships

I’ve had with women in the past.

And as long as I am now content living by myself,

no future unforeseen and unlucky happenings will

seem any worse than what I’ve already experienced

previously.

I’m not really a superstitious guy, but wiser men

than I know enough to avoid playing against the

odds. Mother died years ago, and as far as I know

at the time her back was still in tact.
