Brain Jumble

As with most days

I begin reading

and get ready

to write.

There is

no theme or

subject clear cut.

Even simple words

like, this, that,

these and those

seem funny and

oddly misplaced.

What do of, before

and after mean

anyway?

I sound them out

and still their

spelling seems

foreign to me.

Who came up with

words you have

taken for granted

since first grade

when you began

to read and write?

Words like heretofore

and wherewithal

make your headache,

twist your body

out of shape.

Close the damned

book, put the

computer to sleep

and reset your

frame of mind.

It is then you realize,

had you been raised

in a place like Germany

or Poland

or Afghanistan

to make

any sense

of those

words would

be a whole

lot worse.

Eventually,

You come to

your senses

and go on.

The words fall

into place and

for today at least

you’ll be okay.

At least

I was able

to wite

this down.

Who came up

with punctuation

anyway?

Why do people

use pauses, stops

and inflections

when they speak?

Oh, I could

go on and on.
