In
life, might as well do what you want to do.
That’s
my advice to you. I’m speaking out of
experience.
Might as well do what you want
to
do.
Find
what you’re good at, something you like
to
do and go for it—painting, writing, con-
struction,
heating, plumbing, air condition-
ing,
auto repair and restoration, doctor,
lawyer,
butcher, baker, candlestick maker,
social
work, sports of some sort, why hell,
even
caricatures at the beach or the mall.
Do
it, just do it, because it’s only once in a
lifetime
or not at all. When it’s over and done
no
one, I tell you no one else will care. A
hundred
years from now not a blamed soul
will
have noticed or even give a care.
Take
me for instance, for all I’m worth and
all
the good and bad I may have done, when
I’m
gone, zip, zero, nada, life goes on. Had
I
to do it all over again, I’d unfold my folding
chair,
sit in the shadow of the Golden Gate
Bridge,
cigar in one hand, bottle of Budweiser
in
the other.
I’d
stop passers-by and tell them: See that
bridge
over there? Yes sir, I surely do, they’d
say.
Well, I’d tell them proudly, I had nothing
to
do with its construction, but she’s a beauty,
isn’t
she? Grand and famous as she is, can’t
name
one damned person who was involved
in
putting her there.
And
you, I’m giving you some free sage advise:
In
life, might as well do as you like. Hell, you’re
only
four years old now, and if you’re lucky,
you’ve
still got some time to figure it out. I could
be you, and you could be me. In a hundred years
no one would know the difference.
be you, and you could be me. In a hundred years
no one would know the difference.
