e·gal·i·tar·i·an de·spair

Madri, padri, bambine, adolescenti, nonne,
nonni, famiglia, amiche, amichi, vincinato—
mothers, fathers, children, teens, grandmas,
grandpas, family, friends and neighbors, an
egalitarian society gathered together in the
town square (la piazza cittadina) on a warm
and sunny day.

I malati, i morenti, i morti. The sick, the dying,
the dead.

Everyday life interrupted by the Coronavirus,
a pandemic, everyone gone away, homebound,
seperated and locked in place. I have been there,
have experienced the vibrant and thriving life
on the streets of Italy, and never thought I’d
live to see this day. Life upside-down, joy to
sorrow, sunny skies turned to gray.

I watch with a heavy heart (Guardo con il cuore
pesante).
