Modicum of Civility

No doubt we humans are the cause of our own grief

and despair.

But too, Nature has its way of culling pesky populations.

We claim we are concerned with global warming, as it

should be, and yet we are not addressing our carbon

footprint as a dire emergency.

Of course there are wars with innocent refugees dropping

like flies from collateral damage and lack of food, water,

shelter and medical care.

Hello! Are there any world leaders with a goddamn bit of

compassion and common sense left out there?

Nature will not relent with her devastating disasters while

we work out our own self-inflicted problems.

Flooding and tsunamis will not stop; tornadoes and hurricanes

will not abate; wildfires and earthquakes shall not wait;

famine, pestilence, virus and plague will continue to inundate.

Went to three stores the other day, and none of them

had toilet paper or hand sanitizer.

How shall a so called sophisticated society such as ours

continue to operate?

What in hell, given all that, how’s a guy in this day and age

supposed to maintain a modicum of civility?
