One Blunder After Another (two wrongs don't make a right)

I suppose it’s only natural when two

people don’t see eye-to-eye and rarely

if ever get along. Happens to everyone

from time to time. The wise one sees

it for what it is before the damage

is done and calmly walks away.

I claim to have been a dumb ass at

certain junctures in life, especially

when I was under the influence and

not of stable mind. Can never seem

to make a wrong right no matter how

hard we try.

In looking back on my failed marriage

of so many years ago, I made many

choices and many mistakes. My first

wife and I were never a match made

in heaven. In fact both of us at times

made life a living hell for one another.

I suppose one could blame youthful

inexperience at the root of our fool

hearty and self-centered actions, that

and not having developed practical and

sensible adult thoughts and behaviors.

How can one successfully live with

another person when neither of you

has a clue as to who you are? I got to

thinking back to my early relationship

with the woman I would marry.

I was barely nineteen, and she two

years older than I. Strike one. As a

US Serviceman stationed overseas,

I met my German wife to be—differ-

erent languages, different cultures,

different wants and needs. Strike two.

And here is where the real difficulty

came to be: One day she said to me,

I’m pregnant.” And my spontaneous

reply, “Let’s get married.” Strike three,

you're out!

I wound up arguing my case with the

umpire, but we all know how well that

works out.
