I
listen to Greek Music from Manos Hadjidakis,
and
although I am of Greek heritage, I don’t
speak
the language. Through the emotional
outpouring
of the singers and the instrumentals,
however,
I understand. It makes me joyous;
it
makes me weep. I get it. I suppose that's the
universal
language of music. So many times
and
in so many ways, in English, my native
tongue,
I do not comprehend. Smile, cry, throw
a
goddamned tantrum. Speak slowly in heart
rending,
soul-soaked images which move me.
I’m
listening.
