What's Up?

What’s Up?

Confined to home during

the pandemic and

my son calls me on the phone.

(We check on one another a couple

times a day).

What are you up to, I ask him?

Got some seeds the other day,

vegetables mostly.

Planted them in pots.

Just waiting to watch them grow.

Good to keep busy,

have something to occupy

the time since you can’t

go out anywhere anyway.

What’s up with you, he asks me?

Oh, you know, safely tucked away

at home.

And having turned 73 the other day,

I thought, beats planting

myself in front

of the bathroom mirror,

mulling over growing old.

Vegitables are a hell

of a lot healthier

and have a much higher yield,

you know.
