What It's All About

It’s the train you didn’t see coming.

It’s the thought of light bulbs you had forgotten

to add to your shopping list.

It’s about the phone call from an old friend

you haven’t heard from in 30-years.

It’s the birthday gift you never in a lifetime

expected to receive,

a 10-dollar lottery ticket winner you bought

with a bag of Cheetos and a Coke

at the corner 7-11 with your last 5-dollars,

the unexpected rainstorm on the day you left

your umbrella in the closet at home.

You sit quietly in the chair listening to

Mendelssohn’s violin concerto on your

Amazon Echo , and you write

about hyenas laughing at midnight

on the Serengeti.
