There
are these words I have written down
on
scraps of paper, titles of songs I like and
will
play each day, names of friends and
people
I need to call, words reminding me
of
bills to pay. On the end table next to my
recliner,
stacks of paper with printed words
telling
me where to go, what to do, giving
me
advice, explaining what I should and
shouldn’t
do in case. Words, myriad millions
of
words, all around me everyday. Words fill
the
books I have at my disposal which I ran-
domly
or specifically choose to read or not
each
day. And too, neither last nor least, words
pouring
from the wellspring of my brain. Those,
my
friends, are the most perplexing kind of all.
A
lifetime in the making, words old and new
I
have learned along the way, words I espouse
and
activate, mull over, or eschew and refuse
to
use. And here we are alongside the words
I
have selected to put on the page before you
today.
Notice that I have elected to omit certain
words,
leaving the rest to your own cognitive
imagination.
At the end of this, my stream of
consciousness,
you in your own way (if you
haven’t
already) shall more than likely cherry
pick
words for getting through the day. Now,
thank
God, I can cross that assignment off my
list
of words, and merrily be on my way.
