A Time Line

So here we are, you and I somewhere
out there in a place we have gathered
to be.

Yesterday the line formed, a yesterday
turned into today and soon tomorrow
shall be.

Yes, my friends, a gathering in kind,
in front, in the middle or last one left
behind standing in line.

And for what, who knows, who on Earth
can say?

Waiting…

waiting…

patiently waiting.

standing in a long, long line, wasting
time, waiting perhaps with expectations,
with reserved or great anticipation,

somewhere stationary, slowly shuffling
our feet forward, biding our time,

you and I, the guy or gal next door,
the ones left out in the cold,

the ones ahead or left behind, waiting,
waiting day after day,

eventually to hopefully become the first
one, coming up from the last one in line,

waiting to see what in hell is happening.
I for one am tired of waiting.

I’ve run out of time, and I’m out of here!
No need to save my place.
