My plan is to have no plans today.
At my age and in my waning days,
let the day go as it will. And may
what was meant to be lead the way.
I have my routine to obey, morning
coffee, tend to the dog, read and
write some poetry, a few catnaps in
between.
Boring some of you may say, but I
like being noncommittal that way.
And with caller ID on my cell phone,
I need only answer to a select few,
and that may or may not include you.
What you say, you don’t have my
number anyway. Not that I think any
less of you, but I’ve already heard
the weather forecast, so what’s there
to discuss now that can’t wait?
The forecast, bitter cold, cloudy and
gray, a mighty fine frigid February day.
I had no plans, other than to stow
away inside wrapped warm and cozy
with music to play—Beethoven, of
course. He can call on me anytime
he wishes.
