Metaphorically Speaking

 

Let’s run it up the flagpole and see

if anyone salutes. An old friend of

mine told me that a long time ago.

He was one who could always come

up with some clever pithy phrase.

Dan was his name.

Got a great idea? Let’s run it up the

flagpole and see if anyone salutes.

Got a bad idea? If no one salutes,

you’ll find out pretty soon. The

world of mankind needs more tests

like that.

Only problem I see is if one or

two stop to look and also salute,

quite a few more are bound to

stop and follow suit. People are

sometimes dumb that way.

Goes to show you, many folks

out there don’t understand meta-

phors. They’re stupid enough to

salute an opossum in pajamas.

Metaphorically speaking, that is.

Anyone got a spare flagpole?

I got this idea for a poem.
