Food for Thought

I was thinking

of ones of a kind—

Picasso’s, van Gogh’s, and

my dog, Carmen, you know.

I had it made in the shade a

few times in my life, but then

came the winds of change

and I had hell to pay.

I never achieved first place in

anything, but I did tie for last

twice, once with a one-armed

guy who was blind in one eye

and couldn’t see out of the other.

Being off my rocker seems an

admirable position to hold in

life. Just ask my first wife,

she’ll emphatically attest to

that claim.

What’s in a name, anyway?

Well, should your name

happen to be Mudd,

that would not be good.

I’ve lived my life mostly

philosophically, following

the bread crumbs to wherever

they lead.

Have you ever tried dancing

to the music of Rossini,

or worn a hat made of

porcupine quills?

Neither have I,

but next time you

have a few extra bucks,

you really ought

to give Iowa a try,

provided you are

contrary.

You’ll have to excuse me,

I seem to have

a brick in the oven.
