If
I were thirty-eight today I might be
writing
to you about my vision of the
future
for you and for me. I might tell
you
of places I have been and destina-
tions I long to see. A bright future I might
add
as a positive outlook on life. Of
course
I would not address the pitfalls
ahead.
We’ll deal with those hopefully
successfully
as they arise. Better times
ahead
would be my outlook at such
a
vibrant age of thirty-eight. I have,
however,
long since passed that mile
marker
in time. Trips to Italy, Germany
and
Greece for me are history and linger
only
in my photographic memories. My
athletic
endeavors on the softball field
and
volleyball court have been forfeited
to
arthritic hips and knees. I never really
focused
on saving for a rainy day and
today
at age seventy-two, I rely on my
two
pups for company and a monthly
check
from Social Security. I will admit,
I
never had pie-in-the-sky hopes for
wealth
and fame. I do sport a long white
beard
with a countenance of age spots and
wrinkles
to claim. I have a doughnut and
glass
of milk before bedtime to ensure
sweet
dreams when I fall asleep. I gen-
erally
get up at 2 or 3 AM to pee, grate-
ful
at my age I am still able to hold it
that
long without diapers or wetting
the
bed. I know, for you perhaps, that’s
far
too much information. Text me if you
are
up to snuff on the technology and still
able.
(I never saw that coming.)
