For These Among Us

The lonely old woman, bed
ridden in a nursing home,
who has seen better days,

the PTSD, war-ravaged veteran
who has lost both legs, the family
who mourn the loss of a child
through gun violence or suicide,

the cancer victim who endures
the punishing and adverse effects
of treatment, the homeless, the

hungry, the diseased and name-
less forgotten in society, the
jobless and indebted, the bullied,
the chronically ill or impaired,

the war-torn, dislocated and
exiled, the addicted, oppressed
and depressed…

Forget not these less fortunate
among us who seek to find a
way, who pray for strength and

courage to endure in the hopes
of making it through the hard-
ships of their lives day after day.
