Life, the Way It has Come to Be

 

The way things are is the way things

are supposed to be. Nothing we can do

even if we wanted to.

Paul passed away in an accident at

age twenty-eight leaving a promising

career and his young family behind.

Depressed and forlorn, Devin took his

life at age thirty. What a terrible shame.

Some claim, life as it has come to be was

as it was meant to be.

Jimmy, at fifty-six died of a drug overdose

His ongoing addiction predicted the tragic

end to his life would happen inevitably.

Cancer took Shannon away from her

two loving children in her early thirties.

A ravaging skin disease claimed the life

of Teresa before she could have children

of her own.

And then there are those, as chance or

the fates would have it, still alive to

remember and eulogize those whose

lives ended so tragically.

Life, that’s it I suppose, and the way it

goes, the way life was meant to be for

the mournful likes of you and me.
