Look at it this way, I tell myself each day,
my dog doesn’t care that I am not rich
and famous, could give a hoot that I am
hobbled and bent, old and gray.
She is, as I am, aware and grateful that
we are here together today and every
day. She couldn’t care less as to how we
got here, just content as can be, safe and
secure in each other’s company.
Side-by-side, she and I each being all we
were meant to be, best friends forever
and ever, and that for us is today, here
and now which is all that really matters.
I have learned this from her. Today,
together, today is all we have—in all
its sublime glory, a faithful and trusting
companionship forever.
