Something About Gatherings

Schools of fish, thousands swim together

to confuse and allude capture by predictors.

Newly hatched turtles scramble in droves

across the beach headed for the sea, hoping

in their numbers to escape birds of prey.

Salmon together in numbers swim up-

stream annually to spawn. Hungry bear

feast with delight on their catch, but

are powerless to catch them all.

Birds of a feather flock together and

migrate south in the fall.

There is safety in numbers, my friends, a

herd, a school or flock mentality if you will.

Nature has its way of insuring the survival

and propagation of myriad species.

Humans gather in groups, congregations,

masses, throngs, crowds and so on. Personally,

for my safety when alone and threatened by a

gunman, a mass-shooter or a suicide bomber,

I’d prefer a solid rock to hide behind.

Should I be confronted by a bad play or movie,

subjected to a poor speech, recital or rambling

lecture, simply walking away will do.
