Genetically Speaking

Often I watch my dogs and think back
25,000 years. They came from a long line
of wolves. In such a shot time historicaly,
genetically they have transformed into
the breeds of canine we have come to
know and love today. No Chihuahuas,
no terriers or shepherds, no bulldogs or
Chows. No St. Bernards or Great Danes
way back when, no mutts and Heinz 57s
to protect and follow you around.

Then, I get to thinking about cats, domes-
ticated that is, the purring, preening felines
we humans either adore or distrust today.
Personally, I am a dog person, but can
appreciate a cuddly, fur-ball kitty anyway.

Now, take us as a species, homo-sapiens, if
you will. We have gone through our own
evolution as well, you know Cro-Magnon,
Neanderthal and the like. And of course
there were the bipedal apes before all that.
Folks, whether we like to admit it or not,
that primate stuff is still part of our DNA.

Why, just the other day, I...well, to avoid an
embarrassing moment, I won’t get into that.

In any case, evolution-wise, I prefer the
shape of dogs and cats today. I do believe
we humans have yet a long, long way to go.
Take Donald Trump for an example, an ob-
noxious and crude specimen of a human
being indeed. Myself, I prefer the ass-scratch-
ing, grub-eating Chimpanzee.
