Pain
is one way of knowing you are
still
alive. An old friend of my reminded
me
of that one time. There are those who
will
claim of a person who has recently
died,
at least they are no longer in pain.
I
say, having known pain in life, especially
in
my old age, the good thing about pain is
when
you experience relief from it. The
dead
are unfortunate in that regard for they
feel
nothing, neither the revulsion of pain
nor
the beautiful relief from it. Death, my
friends,
is the ultimate and everlasting
void
of being. And I ask, where could the
pleasurabilty
of that be? Feeling is the lifetime
key
to all possibilities, pain and the respite
from
it, I say. Give me pain over death any day.
For
when death intervenes, the numbness of
nothingness
shall last an eternity.
