Coulda, Shoulda, Woulda

Somewhere along the way, winding
and tortured as it may have been, some-
one may have asked you, why have you
not made it, the big time of fortune

and fame? You have so much talent,
how come it is yours has not become
a household name or has never been
enshrined into a hall of fame?

This has been asked of me a time or two
occasionally. And pondering my current
lack luster and obscure situation, I have
come up with some answers well within

the realm of possibility. Could be I put a
sock on the wrong foot one day. I may
have left work early and earned a bad
name. I may have picked up my fork in

the wrong hand and proceeded to eat my
peas with a spoon. I sat on a park bench
one beautiful day and watched the flowers
grow instead of actively promoting what

may have turned out to be my latest and
greatest venture. Or, I told my boss to go
straight to hell. Oh well, I missed my train
and with that arrived at my destination

15-minutes too late. I slept in past 8 and
lost my place in line. Given all my chances
blown at the time, I find myself among
one of the Greatest Unknowns. Are you

familiar with the Empire State Building in
NYC? Do you know who holds the world
record for the longest hitting streak in
MLB history? I had nothing to do with

either of those. I’m not known on Wall
Street, nor do I hang in the Louvre. I have
no cocktails or appetizers named after me.
I’ve never made the New York Times Best

Seller List, have never been interviewed
on the nightly news. No one that I know
has even given their baby my name. You
see, I coulda, shoulda, woulda...but I

never did. Whatever happened or was worth
mentioning on God’s Green Earth, it most
certainly was not me. That’s enough said about
me, what was your name again?
