Something About Gratitude

I think of it this way, I would not be alive
today. I would know nothing of Mark Twain,
Hemingway, Picasso or Monet. I would have
never heard a Beethoven symphony or the

Beetles play. Not one impactful note of Billie
Holiday or Patsy Kline would have ever crossed
my mind. I would have never known the struggles
of mankind through a Gandhi, a Martin Luther

King Jr. or a Mandela. I would have not ever seen
the brilliance of a sunrise in the East or the glory
of a sunset in the West, not ever tasted a pizza,
nor smelled the fragrence of a rose in bloom. I

would have never known love nor the detestable
ruination of hate. Never would I have had children
to grow and know the lives they have come to know.
And, I could go on and on as I have for 72-years. I

think of it this way, I would not be alive today, born
into the Freedom, USA had it not been for those who
fought and gave their lives, and those who survived
on the Beaches of Normandy, June 6, 1944, D-Day.

I would not know the preciousness of each heartbeat,
the sweetness of each breath I take. For this, and so
much more, I am ever grateful, and to them, I owe all
that I have become.
