Once
in a while I’ll imagine life in the future,
not
mine because at my age, today is all I can
realize
and hope for. In my time I have already
witnessed
more changes and innovations than
most
mankind generations. And still, there is
far
more going on today than I could possibly
comprehend.
Hell, I wasn’t aware of the com-
puter
age until well after it had emerged onto
the
scene. Had the Japanese known about the
atom
bomb before Nagasaki and Hiroshima,
I’m
pretty sure their surrender during World
War
II would have come sooner. And as for
tomorrow,
well, today there are revelatory
inventions
already well underway. Included
in
some of those could be a new scientific
scheme
which could extend life considerably.
As
creators of life and death, our venerable
and
abominable species has already come up
with
myriad ways to extend and eliminate life
on
Earth as we know it. And Lord knows, I
have
grown old and wise enough in my time
and
place to have seen plenty enough of both.
What’s
next, self-driven automobiles?
