What
is it exactly that makes one day different
from
the next? Some rely on the day of the week,
some
put a label on the date and year to differentiate.
For
those of us who awake mostly the same day
after
day, we are challenged to place our existence in
some
sort of defined and personally contrived frame
of
mind. For instance, I have acknowledged that the
calendar
indicates Thursday today. At my age and
tenuous
physical condition I am hopeful today will
not
be proclaimed heart attack or stroke day. My
pups
awoke pretty much, as I see it, the same as they
did
yesterday and the day before. So, for them and me
and
for everyone I know in relationship and by name,
a
morning mantra I exclaim—A good day, a safe day, a
patient
and caring day, I pray. May tornadoes, pestilence
hatred
and war, fire and flood be barred from my door!
No
birthdays or anniversaries to commemorate today.
A
casual glance down at my hands, and, oh yes, today
would
be a good day to trim my finger nails. I thought
about
that yesterday, but forgot about it when something
else
interrupted to preoccupy my mind. Yesterday was
meatloaf
day. Today, leftovers of the same. Fingernails
most
assuredly today, unless that is, something else arises
and
gets in the way. I cannot use the shirt I put on to define
today,
it’s the same one I wore yesterday.
