Something About Consistency

The clock is silent, its red light showing
the time, and you know the time is right.
The furnace kicks on and forces warm air
into the room. Temperature is comfortably

fine. Coffee is made. Everything is working
as it should, and I am hopeful all will con-
tinue that way. Science tells you that the sun
and moon have eons in their cycles which

remain. Non-disruptive consistency is key
for me in getting my writing done each day.
The string has been long as of late, and some
day, I am sure, the continuum will break. One

of my pups sits in his chair looking at me as
he whines, and I see no reason why; the other
pooch nestled between my knees in the recliner
is noisily nipping at her nails. My daughter calls

to say goodbye before leaving on her Hawaiian
vacation. I suppose I should not look a gift horse
in the mouth as I write these distracting interrup-
tions down.

Contemplating serene pastoral scenes is not meant
for today.
