Lost in Translation

“Arroz con piojos, Por favor.”

You just ordered rice with lice,

the waitress informed me.

You mean, “arroz con pollo,”

rice with chicken?

My Spanish needs a bit of work,

I admitted. It took me some

time just to get the “Por favor”

thing right. On second thought,

I will have the rice with chicken,

please!

It costs a little more, but it’s well

worth it, she explained. It then

became abundantly clear to me

that there was more work to be

done. 

“Gracias!”
