Past, present and future,
each and every day I am
reminded of life’s cycle.
I see things differently
than the way things used
to be. Grow up, I was
chided as a child. Okay,
I would say, now get
the hell out of my way
and let me be. I had no
idea what was in store
for me. We either make
or break it as the world
turns round. Each day
holds twenty-four hours,
and the boss tells us
we’d better make hay
for our pay. And for
the most part, I did.
Lots of horses were
fed on my account.
None of them ever
ran win, place or
show. Presently,
I have been put out
to pasture alongside
the rest of the old nags.
Odds are, I’m betting,
destined analogously
for the glue factory
inevitably. I suppose
that’s the future one
gets for sticking to it.
